De Praestigiis Daemonum or On Hellish Deceptions is a book of demonology, published in 1563 by Dominican inquisitor Heinrich Kramer. The first edition had no illustrations or woodcuts, but had a short intro of only four pages since it was meant to be included in his previous work Malleus Maleficarum which itself was about witchcraft. The first edition of this book was only seven pages long with seven chapters or titles. This short book was meant to be a small supplement for his other work on witchcraft, but became famous in its own right, and earned Kramer the title Father of the Devil. This book went through many editions, but was never as famous as Malleus Maleficarum. This work is only seven pages long only has seven chapters or titles. This short book was meant to be a small supplement for his other work on witchcraft, but became famous in its own right, and earned Kramer the title Father of the Devil. Malleus Maleficarum is a witch-hunting manual written by Heinrich Kramer and published from 1487 onwards with numerous subsequent editions being published until 1669. The title is commonly translated as "The Hammer of Witches", but is also known by the alternative titles of "The Witches' Hammer", "The Malleus Maleficarum" or simply "The Hammer". It is one of the earliest and most well known books on demonology. Malleus Maleficarum was written to deal with what Kramer believed to be an ongoing epidemic of witchcraft, which in turn was part of the ongoing witch-hunts started in 1484. The book also represented an attempt by Kramer to rid himself of official censure for his activities, which had attracted ecclesiastical scrutiny, including that of the Roman Inquisition. This is a very good translation that includes the original Latin and English side by side. The book also contains the most appropiate illustrations and woodcuts for each chapter, which many of the online versions do not have. As far as we know, this is the only website that has all three books of demons — this one, De Praestigiis Daemonum and Malleus Maleficarum side by side in both Latin and English. cfa1e77820
